Orfeus is a musical web application that uses OpenAI’s machine learning music generative model, Jukebox, with a social media-lite platform. Upload a song of one genre and turn into another genre of your choice.
Project Description
Team 8’s project is a musical web application that will take a user’s input of a snippet (around 15 seconds) of a song and the user’s choice of a genre different from the snippet’s original genre. Our website will output a generated musical piece that will align with the other genre of music that the user has chosen. For instance, the application can take in Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and generate a 15-second hip-hop version of the song. This “new” music is generated using a machine learning model that we train to be able to differentiate between different genres of music and generate music based on what it has learned for each genre. The song that is inputted will be used as a sample so its presence in the newly generated music is not drowned out by the music that was used to train the model. In addition to music generation, the website will allow users to download their generated music or they can create an account so that they may save their generated music online. We hope that our application can provide inspiration for songwriters as well as entertainment for the general public.
